OPSO Mourns the Loss of Retired Colonel Alfred Calhoun

Sheriff Jay Russell and Deputies are mourning the loss of retired Colonel Alfred Calhoun.  Colonel Calhoun passed away April 1, 2023 after a lengthy illness.

Prior to joining the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, he served in the U. S. Marine Corp, stationed in Guam.

Colonel Calhoun joined OPSO in 1971 and quickly gained the reputation of a hardworking, dedicated Law Enforcement Officer. He transferred to the Investigations Division in 1973.  He continued to work his way through the ranks, later serving as Commander of Investigations before being promoted to Colonel in 1984.

During his career, he received numerous letters of appreciation from the public and commendation letters from his supervisors.  He attended many training seminars and was very well known and respected in law enforcement circles. He retired in 1991.

Please remember his family and Deputies in your prayers during this time.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe.  Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
