Press Release – Scam Alert
Sheriff Jay Russell is alerting residents of an ongoing scam involving individuals representing themselves as employees of a water company.
On February 7th, OPSO investigated a theft complaint where a white male and a white female went to a residence on Highway 139 in Monroe. This couple gained access to the residence by representing themselves as being from the water company. They explained to the victim that they were looking for water leaks.
The female suspect distracted the homeowner while the male suspect went to another area of the home. After the suspects left the residence, the victim discovered that they had been a victim of a theft.
The male suspect is described as white, approximately 5’9” tall weighing around 150 pounds wearing a white shirt. The white female suspect is described as 5’7” tall, approximately 110 pounds wearing a white hat and blue jeans.
The suspects were traveling in a white two door car.
