On the morning of 5/18/13, deputies were dispatched to the 700blk of Tulip St in West Monroe in reference to a welfare complaint. Upon arrival, a female victim was located with bruising on her entire face. The victim indicated her husband, Steve Bailey was responsible.
Deputies attempted to detain the suspect and he resisted to the extreme. During the altercation he attempted to gain control of a deputy’s firearm and TASER but was unsuccessful. Once in custody, he eluded deputies once more and fled on foot. Bailey was apprehended a short distance from the scene and transported to the Ouachita Correctional Center.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for numerous broken ribs, vertebra and other bones. Her entire body was covered in bruises of various sizes and shapes. She also suffered from a collapsed lung. The victim advised the beatings have been ongoing for three days as the suspect would not allow her to leave. The suspect used various items including a claw hammer, a baseball bat, his hands and feet.
Warrants for the suspect were obtained for Aggravated Kidnapping (dv)no bond, Aggravated 2nd Degree Battery (dv) no bond, Attempted Disarming of a Police Officer bond $50,000, two counts of Battery on a Police Officer bond $25,000 each, Resisting an Officer bond $15,000, Simple Escape bond $10,000 and two counts of Damage to Property bond $5,000 each.
