Ouachita Parish Sheriff Jay Russell and Deputies are mourning the loss of Retired Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Captain James Cannon. Captain Cannon passed away August 31, 2022.
He began his career at OPSO in the Patrol Division in 1996, where he served until he retired in 2008 with 12 years of service. Before joining OPSO, he served 4 years as the Narcotics Division Supervisor with the Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office. Prior to that, he was a Trooper with the Louisiana State Police, retiring as a Lieutenant, after serving 20 years in both patrol and the narcotics investigation division.
Jim dedicated his life to law enforcement, as illustrated by his career. He was a professional and was well-liked by all of us who knew and worked with him. Please keep his family and fellow officers in your prayers during this time.
Funeral Services will be Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the North Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe at 3:00 P.M.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church.
