OPSO Sgt. Wayne Heckford Retires

Sergeant Wayne Heckford is retiring after serving 31 years with the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office.

In 1996, he was assigned the newly formed Code Enforcement division, responsible for enforcing the litter abatement ordinances for Ouachita Parish.  He continued in that role until his retirement.

Through his leadership and dedication to preserving the environment, many of the programs he pioneered and are in place today and have served as models for other local governments to follow.  During his career, he has brought over 15,000 cases to successful closure in the Ouachita Parish Environmental Court.

He has received many letters recognizing his accomplishments over the years.  One of the most recent was his receiving the Golden Can Award from Keep Louisiana Beautiful for his deep commitment and going above and beyond the call of duty.  The second recent award was the James Poe Award presented by Ouachita Green.  He received this award for his efforts furthering the goals of Ouachita Green, preserving natural beauty, protecting the environment, abating litter and educating the residents of our parish of the goals and efforts of Ouachita Green.
