Sheriff Jay Russell has announced the following promotions in the Supervisory staff at OPSO:
Colonel Larry Knight is a 30-year veteran of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office and previously served as the Major over the Investigative Division. Colonel Knight will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office.
Major Jay Ellerman is a 26-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, having previously served as the Commander of the Metro Narcotics Unit. He now heads up the Investigative Division.
Captain Doug Schmitz is an 18-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. He previously supervised the OPSO SCAT unit and is now the Commander of the Metro Narcotics Unit.
Captain James Felts is a 14.5-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office and served as a Shift Lieutenant in the Patrol Division. He will now supervise the SCAT unit.
Lieutenant Danny Johnson is a 15-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. He previously was a Patrol Division Shift Sergeant. He is now assigned as a Shift Lieutenant in Patrol.
Sergeant James Humphrey is a 21-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, serving the last several years as a Senior Investigator in the Investigations Division. He has been promoted to Shift Sergeant in the Patrol Division.
