West Monroe Homicide Arrest

The victim in the West Monroe homicide has been identified as Steve Brown, 22yo, of 1002 South 7th Street, Monroe.

During the early morning hours of April 18, 2013, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting complaint at a vacant residence in the 200 block of Central Street in West Monroe. The responding deputies located a decease male victim that had been shot in the head. A subsequent investigation identified the suspect as Cortez Coleman, 20yo, of 21 Honeysuckle Drive, Monroe. With the assistance of the West Monroe Police Department, deputies located Coleman in the 100 block of Vernon Street, West Monroe.<\p>

Coleman provided investigators with a statement about the incident on Central Street. He stated that the victim was lured to the location so that his vehicle could be stolen. Coleman stated that the victim was accidentally shot with a handgun.<\p>

Coleman has been booked into OCC on an arrest warrant for one count of 2nd Degree Murder. Bond is set at 250,000. The investigation is continuing. The victims identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.<\p>


Arrest on Residential Burglaries

A four month investigation into 22 residential burglaries by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of Antonio R. Henderson, 23yo, of 1101 Richwood Road #2, Aapt 119 and Calvin Tillman, 17yo, of 1101 Richwood Road #2, apt 186, Monroe, LA.

The burglaries occurred in the housing areas of South Park, Preston Loop and Cotton Bayou in Monroe, LA. On 4/18/2013, both suspects were located in the Parkview Apartment housing complex. Investigators had previously secured arrest warrants for Henderson and Tillman in relation to a previous burglary.

Henderson and Tillman were booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center by warrant on one count of residential burglary. Bond is set at $10,000. Investigators are in the process of booking each suspect on numerous other residential burglaries as a result of this investigation.

Ouachita Parish Task Force Weekend Stats

Several agencies in Ouachita Parish teamed up and hit the streets the weekend of 4/26 – 4/27/13. District Attorney Jerry Jones, Louisiana State Police Troop-F, Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office and the University of Louisiana at Monroe Police Department teamed up in the Multi-Agency Task Force.

OPSO Searching for Escaped Work Release Inmate

UPDATE: On May 4th, Ronald Lassere was taken into custody in Ascension Parish. Acting on a tip, deputies located the suspect in an apartment complex where he was eventually arrested without incident.

 

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office needs your help in locating escapee Ronald David Lassere Jr., 32yo, W/M, 5’7″, 180lbs, Brown Hair/Brown Eyes.

Lassere was in the work release program when he walked away from his job on Jackson Street in Monroe.

On Today’s date, Lassere was spotted by Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office when he then fled on foot. Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office, LSP, and other surrounding agencies are currently conducting a search for Lassere.

Lassere was last seen wearing an LSU cap, orange shirt, khaki shorts, green socks and also had a green shirt in his possession.

West Monroe Shooting Investigation

UPDATE: Toby L. Boyer was arrested by warrant for one count of Attempted Felony Theft and one count of Aggravated Assault. This arrest stems from the April 30th investigation on William Harris Road in Calhoun. The investigation revealed that Boyer attempted to steal property from the home owner. When confronted, Boyer attempted to run him over. Bond is set at $7,500.

On 4-30-2013 at approximately 1:03 p.m. the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 1100 block of William Harris Road in reference to a shooting. The initial investigation revealed that a suspect was attempting to steal property from the residence and when confronted by the armed homeowner, the suspect attempted to run over the homeowner with his vehicle.

In an effort to defend himself, the homeowner discharged his weapon, striking the suspect at least once. The suspect has been airlifted to Shreveport for medical attention and is in unknown condition.

This case is still under investigation at this time.

Shooting Investigation in Monroe

Shortly after 2am on 5/16/13, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to the 4400blk of Hadley Street in Monroe in reference to a shooting. Deputies contacted a witness who stated he observed a female victim lying in the roadway bleeding heavily from both legs.

Deputies learned from the victim that she had been picked up by a known person at a club in the Booker T area of Monroe. The suspect, identified as Marlo Migal Hines, 40yo of 19 Fair Oaks Drive, Monroe, then took her to an unknown location where he forced her to have sex with him. The victim stated that Hines then drove her to Hadley Street where he forced her to exit the vehicle. Hines then shot the victim in both legs and left her in the roadway.

With the help of the Monroe Police Department, Hines was located and taken into custody. Investigators secured arrest warrants for Hines and he was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center for one count of Forcible Rape and one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder with total bond set at $250,000.

The victim is being treated at a local hospital and is in stable condition.

Investigation on Tulip St West Monroe

On the morning of 5/18/13, deputies were dispatched to the 700blk of Tulip St in West Monroe in reference to a welfare complaint. Upon arrival, a female victim was located with bruising on her entire face. The victim indicated her husband, Steve Bailey was responsible.

Deputies attempted to detain the suspect and he resisted to the extreme. During the altercation he attempted to gain control of a deputy’s firearm and TASER but was unsuccessful. Once in custody, he eluded deputies once more and fled on foot. Bailey was apprehended a short distance from the scene and transported to the Ouachita Correctional Center.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for numerous broken ribs, vertebra and other bones. Her entire body was covered in bruises of various sizes and shapes. She also suffered from a collapsed lung. The victim advised the beatings have been ongoing for three days as the suspect would not allow her to leave. The suspect used various items including a claw hammer, a baseball bat, his hands and feet.

Warrants for the suspect were obtained for Aggravated Kidnapping (dv)no bond, Aggravated 2nd Degree Battery (dv) no bond, Attempted Disarming of a Police Officer bond $50,000, two counts of Battery on a Police Officer bond $25,000 each, Resisting an Officer bond $15,000, Simple Escape bond $10,000 and two counts of Damage to Property bond $5,000 each.

OPSO Investigators Clear Burglary and Arson at Ouachita Parish School Board Annex Building

Today OPSO Investigators arrested Daniel Garrett Disotell on burglary and arson charges from an incident that occurred on 2/4/13. Disotell allegedly burglarized the Ouachita Parish School Board Annex building and several vehicles, and also set a multipurpose building on fire. OPSO Standoff on Wallace Dean in West Monroe

UPDATE 05/22/13: Today OPSO arrested Gary W. Covington on a warrant for two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder on a Police Officer with bond totaling 2 million dollars.

UPDATE: The standoff has ended after deputies entered the residence and found the suspect with a self-inflicted gun shot wound. The suspect has been transported to a local hospital for treatment and his condition is unknown at this time.

Suspect is identified as Gary W. Covington of 1115 Wallace Dean Rd., West Monroe, LA

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office is on scene in 1100blk of Wallace Dean in West Monroe with a barricaded suspect. Chief Mashaw said that deputies were called to the residence in reference to a possible suicidal subject. Upon arrival, the suspect fired shots at the deputies resulting in a current standoff.

As a precaution, the surrounding area has been evacuated, however, the scene is secured.

OPSO is still on scene at this time working to resolve the situation safely.

Stabbing at Ashford Place Apartments

On 6/15/13 at approximately 9:30p, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Ashford Place Apartments in reference to a stabbing. An investigation revealed that a black female entered the apartment and stabbed another black female several times.

The suspect fled the scene prior to OPSO’s arrival and has not yet been located.

Second Degree Kidnapping Arrest in Monroe

On June 24, 2013, The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex in the 3900 Block of Old Sterlington Road in Monroe, LA. A witness stated that Dontrell Thomas, 29yo of West Monroe, had taken his girlfriend and child at gunpoint away from the residence. Deputies were able to obtain a vehicle description that the suspect used to flee the area. A responding deputy located the vehicle and after a short pursuit, Thomas was stopped on LaSalle Street in Monroe.

The victim stated that Thomas had a history of physical abuse which included burning her with a cigarette, pulling her hair and throwing water on her. The victim stated that earlier, Thomas forced his way into the apartment and pointed a handgun at her forcing her to leave. The victim also stated that Thomas had struck her in the face with his hand during the vehicle pursuit.

Dontrell Thomas was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center for Second Degree Kidnapping, Damage to Property, Resisting an Officer, Aggravated Flight and Domestic Abuse Battery with bond totaling $118,500.00.

Discharge of Firearms Leads to Arrest

On June 25, 2013 at approximately 6:49am, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified of two subjects firing two handguns in the roadway near the 100 Block of Sonny Day Rd. in Monroe, LA. The responding deputies located a 12 year old juvenile along with Timothy Haynes, 23yo of Monroe, at the scene. Deputies observed Haynes attempt to discard a backpack before deputies made contact with him.

A subsequent investigation revealed that this backpack contained two handguns, ammunition and other stolen property. Deputies were able to link this property to several vehicle burglaries that had been reported earlier in the morning.

Investigators received testimonial evidence that confirms that both the juvenile and Haynes participated in numerous vehicle burglaries earlier this date. The statement also corroborates that the two suspects were firing the weapons on Sonny Day Rd.

Haynes was booked at the Ouachita Correctional Center for Illegal Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile and 5 counts of Burglary. The juvenile was transported to the Green Oaks Detention Center.

This investigation is ongoing with more arrests expected.

Shooting Investigation on Hwy 34

A follow-up investigation into the shooting confirms that a subject accidentally discharged a handgun with the bullet striking the victim. The victim was air-lifted to Shreveport and is listed in critical condition. Any additional information in this case will be posted as it becomes available.

On 6/28/13 at approximately 8:21am, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the 5100 Block of Hwy 34 in West Monroe, LA in reference to a shooting incident. An initial investigation revealed that the shooting appeared to be accidental.

The investigation is continuing at this time.

OPSO SCAT Drug Investigation on South 15th St

On 7/2/13 the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office SCAT Team went to 809 South 15th street in Monroe, LA to assist Probation and Parole with a narcotics complaint. During the investigation, SCAT deputies located a .32 caliber pistol, one (1) ounce of hydro marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and $11,880.00 in cash.

Home owners Lemoine Dewayne Bass and Shedrakka Christopher were arrested for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm by Felon, and Possession of a Firearm in the presence of CDS and booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center. Both Lemoine and Shedrakka have criminal histories in drug possession and both are convicted felons for drug crimes.

Murder-Suicide Investigation in West Monroe

UPDATE: At approximately 1:37p the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to 103 Greenbriar Rd. in West Monroe, LA in ref to a reported murder-suicide.

The investigation revealed two deceased subjects inside the residence. They were identified as a Alvin Fife, and his wife, Frankie Fife. The investigation is still on-going at this time.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently on scene in the 100 Block of Greenbriar Drive in West Monroe, LA in reference to an on going investigation into an apparent murder/suicide.

Stabbing Investigation in Sterlington

On 7/14/13 at approximately 7:22a, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a stabbing on Hwy 165 North in Sterlington, LA. During the investigation, Donnaven C. White, 30yo, and Carlos L. Alford, 28yo, were found to have been arguing in the backseat of a car when White stabbed Alford several times with a knife. White also bit another passenger in the vehicle before exiting.

Sterlington Police Department was first on scene, taking White into custody. Alford was transported to a local hospital for treatment. White was transferred to OPSO custody where he was then transported to the Ouachita Correctional Center and booked for Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and Simple Battery.

Search for Missing Boater on Ouachita River

At approximately 5:40pm on 7/19/13, Wildlife and Fisheries Agents located an abandoned boat on the Ouachita River in Sterlington, LA. Arrest Made in Vehicle Burglaries

On July 22, 2013 the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to 141 Jennifer Lane in reference to the homeowner detaining a suspect in the burglary of his vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 16 year old juvenile had been observed entering a vehicle at this location.

Investigators were able to link the suspect to two other vehicle burglaries in the area. A search of the suspect’s home revealed several stolen credit cards along with property purchased by the suspect with these cards.

The suspect has been booked into the Green Oaks Detention Center for one count of Attempted Burglary and two counts of Burglary. This investigation is continuing with more arrests expected.

Vehicle Burglary Arrests in Monroe

During the early morning hours of July 23, 2013, OPSO deputies patrolling Pinnacle Apartments, 224 Finks Hideaway Rd, Monroe, LA, attempted to contact two males on bicycles in the parking lot when both subjects fled. J’Varus Robinson, 17yo of Monroe, was quickly detained and the investigation revealed that Robinson had in his possession two handguns and a small amount of marijuana.

Deputies determined that one of the handguns had been reported stolen through the Monroe Police Department. Investigators later identified Demerquel Jackson, 17yo of Monroe, as the second suspect and was later located and arrested.

Robinson was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center for Illegal Carrying of a Weapon, Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Resisting Arrest, Simple Possession of Marijuana, 5 counts of Simple Burglary, and 5 counts of Conspiracy to commit Simple Burglary. Jackson was charged with 2 counts of Attempted Burglary, 5 counts of Simple Burglary, and 5 counts of Conspiracy to commit Simple Burglary.

These arrests are linked to various vehicle burglaries that occurred in the Town and Country area and date back to late June. This investigation is still ongoing with additional arrest possible.

Vehicle Burglary Investigation Leads to Arrests

On July 31, 2013, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated 12 vehicle burglaries in the areas of Sylvan Lakes, Northwood Drive and Bayside Drive. Suspects entered unlocked vehicles and removed guns, wallets, and sunglasses.

Deputies determined Hayden Pardue, 17yo, Cameron Chase Chilton, 18yo, and Chase Roark, 18yo, to be suspects in these vehicle burglaries. Evidence confirms that during the early morning hours of July 31st, all suspects went to several neighborhoods in West Monroe with the intent to enter vehicles. Investigators and members of the OPSO SCAT were able to recover the stolen handguns, sunglasses, credit cards and other personal IDs from a mobile home in the 4800 Block of Cypress St in West Monroe, LA.

Pardue, Chilton, and Roark have been booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center for 4 counts of Burglary. This investigation is ongoing with additional charges stemming from these burglaries expected.
