Today, we pay tribute to our fallen brother, Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Corporal J. R. Searcy, who lost his life in the line of duty while assisting with an arrest.
On March 4, 2010, Cpl. Searcy volunteered to assist a fellow deputy locate and arrest a suspect in an aggravated battery investigation. During the arrest, the suspect produced a handgun and fatally wounded Cpl. Searcy. On March 6, 2010, he passed away as a result of his gunshot wound.
Cpl. Searcy was an eight year veteran of OPSO and very well respected. To commemorate his service, friends named a branch of the Ouachita Parish Public Library in his honor with a statue of him and his K-9 partner, Rico, near the entrance.
