Captain Denverd Sams is retiring after 32 years of service to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office and residents of Ouachita Parish.
Captain Sams began his career in Corrections 1991, then joined the Reserve Unit in 1992, before returning to Corrections in 1995. He transferred to the Patrol Division in 1998, transferred to the Investigations Division in 2002 until 2005, then returned to the Patrol Division where he served until retirement. For the past 8 years, he has been a Patrol Division Shift Captain.
During his career, he served 22 years on the OPSO SWAT Team and supervised the Neighborhood Watch Program for the past 15 years.
Known for his positive attitude and commitment to serving the Department and Ouachita Parish, Captain Sams has had an exemplary career and is very well known and respected, both in the department and to friends and acquaintances in our community. He has received many commendations and thank you letters over the years.
We will miss him, but we know he is looking forward to spending time with his family and enjoying outdoor activities with them. Join us as we thank him for his service and wish him the very best for his retirement!
